When your chosen system produces more electricity than you consume, the excess is stored in the battery instead of being sent back to the electric grid. In the evening, or during a storm, when your panels aren't producing enough electricity to meet your needs, you can use the electricity stored in your Humless instead of having to buy expensive power from the local utility.
When the grid goes down, your humless senses the loss of power and begins to draw power from your battery instead of the grid. All Humless systems come with built-in AC and DC charge controllers along with an inverter and a battery management system.
What does that mean? That means unlike most batteries on the market, if there is a power outage and the grid goes down, you not only have back-up power stored in your battery, but, your battery can also re-charge from your solar panels, your wind turbine, your hydro turbine or even a gas powered generator.
True Off-Grid Energy
Most home power storage systems don't have built-in charge controllers and inverters. When the grid goes down all they have is the power stored in their battery. Their external inverters are "grid-tied". They can't recharge their battery with solar power when the grid is down. That means you can't really live off-the-grid with their batteries! A SELF-POWERED HOME
To be a self-powered home, you need to combine solar energy and a Humless to have the capability to power your home both day and night. In the daytime, your solar panels may produce more energy than your home is using. Your Humless stores that excess solar energy and makes it available when you need it, even at night. You can manage what power is used when through the Humless website or through the touchscreen on your unit.
If you already have solar: To estimate what size of battery you would need (6.5 - 20kWh's) first look at your energy bill to see how many kWh's your PV system is producing during the day. Then, look to see how many kWh's you are using. Lastly, check the number of kWh's you are sending back to the grid, and the number of kWh's you are purchasing from your utility.
Example: My 5 kW PV system produces on average, 18 kWh's of energy a day. Of those, I'm only using 10 kWh's as it is being produced. The rest (8 kWh's) I am sending back to the grid and getting credits for. At night, when my solar system is not proucing power, I use power from the grid until the sun comes up in the morning. Ususally I use 5 kWh's of grid power during that time.
Now, when I use a Humless, my system still generates 18 kWh's of energy. I'm still using 10 kWh's as it's being produced and then 6.5 kWh's goes to fill up my Humless. So now, I'm only sending 10.5 kWh's back to the grid. When the sun goes down I can now use power from my Humless instead of grid power and I'm still sending back 1.5 kWh's a day to the grid and getting my credits.

How Long Will The HOME Power Standard Run In An Emergency?
That entirely depends on what "Essential Items" you need to power and how much energy they each consume.
Calculating the energy consumption of an appliance or electronic device is fairly easy. Most devices have a label that lists how many watts it uses, either on the device or in the owner's manual. Your HOME Power Standard will always tell you how many hours and minutes of power you have remaining with the current load charging. When you plug in or unplug items it will automatically re-calculate.
CHARGING THE BATTERY
The HOME Power Standard stores 6,500 watt hours of usable electricity, and can be recharged using solar power (if you have it) in just 2.7 hours. If you don't have solar power, it can charge from grid power in just 2 hours.
How Many Solar Panels Can I hook up to it?
When charging your Humless HOME Power Standard, you need take note of the both the wattage and voltage of the solar panels. The maximum amount of DC power you can send into the HOME Power Standard at one time is 2,400 Watts at 150 Volts.
The voltage that your PV system generates depends on how your panels are strug together. If they are connected in parallel, the total voltage output remains the same as it would for a single panel, but the output current (Watts) becomes the sum of the output of each panel
If they are connected in series, the total voltage is found by adding up the voltages produced by each individual panel.
For example, the 250 Watt Humless HOME Panels create up to 250 watts of power at 30 Volts each. If 10 panels were chained in a series that would create 2,500 Watts of power at 300 volts and would exceed the maximum input. If they were connected in parallel, they would create the same 2,500 Watts of power but at only 30 Volts.
What Kind Of Lithium Battery Is Used in the HOME Power Standard?
The Humless HOME Power uses a Lithium Ion NMC battery. A few advatages these lithium batteries have over other Lithium Ion batteries:
Longer Life Cycle - The GO Mini’s state-of-the-art Lithium Ion NMC (Nickel, Manganese, Cobalt) battery boasts over 2500 FULL cycles, or about 8-10 years of daily charging and discharging.
1/3 The Mass & Weight - Lead Acid batteries lead the pack...in terms of size and weight. Humless Lithium Ion NMC batteries are trimmed down to be 33% less bulky than the other guys. That translates to your battery taking up way less space.

Will Cold or Hot Weather Affect My Battery Capacity?
Optimal storage temperature for your HOME Standard is between 32-104 degrees farenheit. If you wil be living off-grid in sub zero tempertures or extreme heat and your HOME Standard will be outside, we recommend keeping your unit in an insulated cooler, connected to it's power source. That will help keep the battery at it's highest capacity.
Does Humidity Affect My Battery Capabilities?
Yes, the optimal moisture for storage is less than 90% humidity. Do not leave your HOME Power Standard out in the rain or operate in wet conditions. In order to avoid shor circuits or electric shock, DO NOT operate in an extremely humid or wet environment.
Can I Charge It With A Gas Genertor?
Yes, But I would run a short extension cord from the gas generator that is outside, to your Humless that is inside, or at least covered. You want to make sure to keep your HOME Standard in a cool, dry place to ensure maximum functionality.
